It was the toughest sailing of the
year. The wind was hard out of the southwest. The gust were horrendous. You
would get up on the rail and have the boat balanced and ... KA-BAM ... the wind
would increase by 5 knots and shift by 30 degrees. Gil and Bud and Frankie ran
the Committee boat while Mark and Michelle had their hands full on the crash
boat. We managed to complete three triangles, but only barely. Peter Greene
finally had his way with Tim and Chuck among the missing winning all three.
Doug Nannig found the conditions to his liking taking a second for the day and
Bob Hicks took third. The wind was blowing so hard at one reach mark that the
second and third boats around (Rollie and Doug) chose to do "chicken jibes"
rather than risking capsizing. The carnage ended mercifully when lighweight
Jill Frances appeared to be trying a 360 and became the second flip victim of
the season.
